With much of NC waiting for snow to fall today, we thought it’d be appropriate to discuss the snow as it relates to your gutters. Snow and ice can strain your gutters, sometimes leading to damage to your gutters. So what can you do to prevent this damage? And, what can you do when this damage does happen?

The best way to prevent damage to your gutters is to regularly clean them. Removing the yard debris from the fall season, such as leaves, pine cones, nuts, etc. before winter hits is always a good practice. With this excess debris removed, your gutters will be better equipped to handle the extra weight from winter’s snow and ice. To have your gutters cleaned, give us a call at Housetop Roofing.

If damage does occur to your gutters this winter, be sure to give us a call as soon as you notice the damage. If it’s still snowy or icy outside, don’t attempt to fix your gutters yourself, as this could lead to accidents and injuries.

If you know that wintry weather is on its way, you can use calcium chloride on your roof and gutters to help melt the snow and ice. Don’t use the typical rock salt as it can cause damage to your roof. Again, we encourage you to use precaution if you decide to do anything to your roof or gutters.

If you need help taking care of your gutters this winter, give us a call at Housetop Roofing in Raleigh, NC.
