The official start to spring is less than a week away, and we’re already starting to experience some of that beautiful spring weather here in Raleigh, NC and Wake Forest, NC. This time of year, with its moderate temperatures and sunny days, is perfect for cleaning your home’s exterior.

When many think of Spring Cleaning, they think of mopping, organizing, dusting– things that go on inside the home. However, spring is also the perfect time to clean up your home’s exterior. From your roof to your gutters to your windows to your vinyl siding, there are a number of areas that could use a good cleaning.

Springtime is a great time to have your roof inspected. When we come out to look at your roof, we look for signs of damage, and any need for routine maintenance around your roof. We can also check out your gutters to see if they need to be cleaned or fixed in any way.

Fortunately, if you have gutter guards, you’re much less likely to need to have them cleaned out. Without gutter guards, you need to lean your gutters about twice a year; with gutter guards, you only need to clean your gutters about once every 2 years. While we’re checking out your roof, we can check and see if it’s time to have your gutters cleaned.

When it comes to cleaning your roof, this needs to be done with extra care. If you have asphalt shingles, you should not use a pressure washer, as the pressure from the water can remove the granules attached to each shingle and cause damage to your roof. Instead, use a more gentle sprayer attached to a garden house. However, we do also recommend that unless you have experience cleaning your roof, that you have roofing professionals do it for you; it can be a tricky and dangerous job.

When it comes to cleaning your home’s vinyl siding, you can use a pressure washer. If you don’t have a pressure washer, you can still clean your vinyl siding, using a soft bristle brush, garden hose, and a cleaning solution made especially for vinyl siding.

Your windows should be cleaned both inside and out. Inside, you can use a glass cleaner and paper towels to do the job. You can do the same outside, or you can use a gentle garden hose and some soap and water to do the job.

This time of year is also a great time to refinish or replace your home’s deck. Aside from being roofing contractors, we also specialize in a number of home improvement projects, including work on your deck. So, if you need extra hands, or a professional touch to repair or replace your deck, we can help you out.
